The Mussel Slough - A California Tragedy
Time & Location
About the Event
The day was May 11, 1880 when the marshall was sent to remove farmers from their land. The farmers were promised good prices for farming and irrigating the land. When they completed that, the railroad changed the price of the land to ten times more than the farmers expected. The farmers sued for fair prices, but the railroad was selling the land from under them without waiting for the court appeals. Then someone shot, and hell broke lose. Seven were now dead. Silvia Gonzalez S. writes the story in play form. This is a staged reading to invite the audience in the creative process.
