Hanford, CA – Before Gunsmoke was a TV Show, it was a radio show on Columbia Broadcast Systems (CBS). Families huddled together to listen to the western with Marshal Matt Dillon, played by William Conrad. Gunsmoke first aired on April 26, 1952. It was set in Dodge City, Kansas in the 1870s. Other regular characters were Chester Proudfoot, played by Parley Baer; Kitty, played by Georgia Ellis; and Doc Adams, played by Howard McNear. The series featured top-notch acting and well-developed scripts that set it apart from many other shows. HMTC brings the radio script to life on stage. Actors in 50’s garb, the radio show exhibits the brilliance of the Golden Age of Radio.
This radio stage re-enactment production of Gunsmoke is the first episode and is called ’Start of a Legend.’ HMTC features Don Brakeman as director and the character Dr. Charles Adams. Mr. Brakeman, has over 60 years of theatrical experience and is proud to make his directorial debut with HMTC. Also featuring, multicultural actors from HMTC training program and local actors.
