THIS SUNDAY AT THE LITTLE BRICK THEATER
The Lil’ Brick Theatre has received some follow up questions about the Open House taking place this Sunday from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. I would like to elaborate a bit more about this event, and the purpose behind it.
The Lil’ Brick Theatre, also known as the Hanford Multicultural Theater Company (HMTC), has already been a fixture in the community for many years, but everyday we have visitors who never knew this theatre existed. Although my last article specifically asked local musicians to attend our open house, it is not limited to only musicians. Anyone is welcome to attend. We encourage all who are interested, to please stop in and see what this theatre has to offer, such as acting/improv classes for kids, teens, and adults, or to learn more about other upcoming plays, comedy shows, and puppet shows. We want you to see this place for yourself.
One of the questions received from the community was if attendees would have an opportunity to bring their own instruments and perform on Sunday. It was not originally the plan to do this, but ask and you shall receive. So, in addition to our Open House at the Lil’ Brick Theatre from 2:00pm - 6:00pm on Sunday, we will also be holding our first music open mic, also known as Jam Lab, immediately after at 6pm.
What makes our Jam Lab event unique, is that in addition to individuals and bands performing their material like a traditional open mic, this event will allow local musicians to also show up with just their instrument and cable, and they will have an opportunity to meet other local musicians and play with them in an improvisational format, which is why this is called “Jam Lab”. I know that there may be many local musicians that don't have other musicians to play with, or maybe they have not played in years. I am hoping that the Jam Lab can become a community where musicians of all skill levels, from all over the Central Valley, can practice, perform, socialize, collaborate, and ultimately create their own music.
Here are some important logistics for the musicians who would like to participate in Jam Lab on Sunday at 6pm..
Anyone wanting to perform, should arrive between 5:00 -5:30 pm to sign up.
Bring your own instrument and cable.
We will provide a house drum kit, please bring your own drumsticks.
There will be 3 D/I boxes on the stage that you can plug your instruments directly into.
Bring any additional effects pedals that you need to achieve your particular sound.
You may bring a small amplifier, but it is not necessary
This event is open to musicians of all skill levels. We simply ask that anyone who attends, both performers and attendees, treats each other with respect. This is a creative community that we are building, and it is not going to be intimidating and competitive. It's more of a clubhouse vibe that is going to feel welcoming and collaborative. Every great musician was once a beginner, and this is why our Jam lab is open to everyone.
This is a free event open to the public, but we encourage any attendees who are able to, to please support our theatre by making a small donation, or buying a beverage from our bar, which will be open from 2-8pm.
See you on Sunday!
