It’s sad to announce that this year will be the last Hanford Dia de Los Muertos event that we host at the mall. Certain elements came into play with that decision, but it became a full reality when a crucial part of the event, which is providing space for altars where community members can honor their departed loved ones, cannot come to fruition. All the storefronts at the Hanford Mall are now leased out.
We always knew this day would come. The pandemic left many storefronts empty, making it easy for the Hanford Mall management to offer us space as they tried to vitalize the mall. We believe we helped with the vitalization.
We are grateful for the opportunity to have showcased music, dance, history, and art at this annual event and thankful that the community has gotten to know us through this cultural outreach.
I have been selling the Catrinas that have been featured at this event, and to be honest, I will miss that the most. Two Catrinas were sold yesterday to participate in a Dia de Los Muertos event in Murphy, California. Ten more Catrinas may go to Bell Gardens, California. I will keep two for the Hanford Dia de Los Muertos event and afterward offer them for sale.
So, please join us for our last event. We are thinking of new artistic and outreach ventures, which is exciting.
We will see you November 2nd from 10 am-4 pm at the Hanford Mall. It being a Saturday, we know it will be pure family fun. As always, information on our website at www.HanfordMTC.com
