Recent Story Slam (and Kittens?)

A successful event at the first Story Slam in the area this past Saturday! Thirteen storytellers and a packed audience attended the event, including a litter of kittens!

Kittens? How did that happen? The landlord hired plumbers who needed access to the building. Our security cameras captured a worker seeing a cat enter through our back door, shrugging his shoulders, and closing the door, thereby trapping the cat inside the building. Minutes before our show, we heard a kitten under the stage. The meowing was loud enough to delay our performance. Luckily, the son of one of the contestants was able to crawl under the stage. What he found was not one cat but a litter of six kittens. They were safely removed and are now in a shelter.

If you see our YouTube video on this event, you will witness the kitten issue unfold at the beginning of the Story Slam. You will see a surprised host and audience. If you keep on watching, you will see a successful Story Slam event. Nestor Amita of Lemoore takes the honor of being the audience favorite.

We heard stories about life in Hanford way back when pheasants penetrated the area. We heard a miracle story. We heard a story about working with Sylvester Stallone. Stories about bears, school life, and even had a story from a local artist telling us about one of her paintings. She showed the painting after her story.

It was a delightful night. The age range of the storytellers was impressive--from age 12 to 93!

Yes, we will do this again.
