Three Original Plays this weekend

This weekend marks the first weekend of the show we have been working on for the past few months—three, to be exact—under the title "Three Original Plays." The plays are "Blind Quinceanera," "Clean," and "Big Breasts." Since the performers are new to the stage, we consider this a debut for them. We call these new plays world premieres.

Every aspect of this show consists mainly of first-timers. We have actors who have never performed before, a sound tech who is new to this field, dressers and crew members who have never taken on these roles, and even the box office person is new to their position. Why do we select them? Our mission is outreach and to provide our diverse community with opportunities to experience the arts.

Scott Yarborough, our technical director, loves to teach the technicalities of our equipment. Don Brakeman, our acting coach, enjoys teaching acting. I love to teach improv and playwriting. What we cherish most is seeing our participants enjoy what they are learning and doing a fantastic job at it.

I hope the public comes to see the show and celebrates these actors and crew for taking a chance on something new.

With the actors, we see potential. Each of them has the potential to advance in this challenging and enjoyable career. When they succeed, we hope they remember the Hanford Multicultural Theater Company and what they learned while taking classes at the Lil’ Brick Theater Stage.

There are three weekends of shows. Saturday shows are at 7:30. To ensure that our actors in Blind Quinceañera, who are young teens, get to bed early for school on Monday, the Sunday shows are at 5 p.m.
