Several residents of Kings County requested this event. Two are poets, and one is an up-and-coming stand-up comic. They explained that they travel to Fresno for open-mic opportunities and that it would be better to have the same activity in Kings County. It didn’t take long to convince us at HMTC because we are a creative hub. So this Friday, June 6, we invite others to express themselves in an open-mic setting in Hanford at our intimate theater space.
What can you do at our open mic? WHATEVER. That’s what we’re calling it: Whatever Open Mic. We expect participants from poetry, storytelling, comedy, and even music. It’s whatever, and we’re excited about this.
The hosts will be Julio and Megan. They request that people who want to participate in the open mic portion arrive around 6pm to sign up. Signups are also available on our website. (www.HanfordMTC.com) There is no cost for the open mic or to be an audience member. There will be refreshments to round out the event.
This is definitely an experiment, but perhaps not. We hosted a successful Story Slam last month that served as a mini-fundraiser for us. This event opens the open-mic opportunity to more artists. This event will showcase a collection of artists we want to know about and support. Additionally, this article serves as an invitation to all artists in Kings County and the surrounding area to help us get to know you. Join us to participate or simply attend to support your local artists.
I assure you, it will be fun. What is truly beautiful is being surrounded by artists who express joy through their art and love to share it. We want them to showcase their work. It would be an honor if they share in our intimate space.
